T. J. Alstad

Pekin, North Dakota

is a farmer and businessman. He was born in Hevne on October 26, 1855 and emigrated to America in 1868 to Rushford, Minnesota. He moved to Mankato, Minnesota and lived there for three years. His father Johannes Alstad took a homestead for himself in Chippewa County, Minnesota and lived there until 1881. His father died in 1914 and his mother died in Norway. In 1881 he took a homestead in Nelson County, North Dakota in Osego Township, and has since lived in that area. He has lived in Pekin, North Dakota since the town started and has a nice home there. He is very interested in farming and is president of the bank in Pekin, North Dakota.

His wife, Anne, is the daughter of Ole Hagen from Stangvik, Romsdals District. They had two children. Their son James was killed by lightning in 1896. Their daughter Jette is married to Nils Forde and they have a farm in Forde Township, near Pekin, North Dakota.
