His wife, Clara Hemnes, was born in Wisconsin of Norwegian parents from Nordland. Her father Ole Hemnes is dead. Her mother Mrs. Sara Hemnes lives on a farm near Centerville, Wisconsin. They have six children. He has worked as the sheriff in Griggs County for two terms and has had several positions of trust in the town.
