A. J. Monson

Cooperstown, North Dakota

is the sheriff of Griggs County. He was born of Norwegian parents in Allamakee County, Iowa, on May 16, 1867. His father, Even Monsen, was from Bergens Stift, and his mother, Ingeborg Skaar, came to America before the Civil War and lived in Iowa until 1878. They came to Griggs County, North Dakota in 1881 and lived there until their deaths.

Monson came to Cooperstown, North Dakota in 1896. He moved to Finley, North Dakota and from there returned to the farm near Cooperstown, North Dakota in 1901. He has two farms near the Sheyenne River.

His wife, Mathilde Quale, was born in America of Norwegian parents, who live in Finley, North Dakota. They have four children of which two go to High School in Coopertown, North Dakota.
