Victor Nelsen

Cooperstown, North Dakota

is a Postmaster. He was born in America of Norwegian parents in Horace, North Dakota on October 23, 1880. His father, Nels T. Nelson, is from Nordland and his mother, Marit Paulsen, is from Gudbrandsdalen. His mother is dead and his father lives in Fargo. He has twelve sisters and all of them are still alive. He came to Cooperstown in 1901 as an assistant at the depot and two years later he became a telegraph operator and treasurer. He became an agent in 1907 and has worked for the Northern Pacific Railway for eleven years. He became Postmaster of Cooperstown 1913.

His wife, Margit Nary, is an American woman. They have one son Viktor. The Postmaster is also a band leader and orchestra instructor.

Two of the Post Office drivers are Norwegian. Burt Nelson is the Postmaster’s brother and Kristian Seldahl is from Stavanger.
