Martin Rood

Pekin, North Dakota

is with the Rood and Knap Company. He was born in Vestre Toten on October 2, 1870 and emigrated to America in 1889 to Vernon County Wisconsin and lived there for one year. He moved to Ellendale, North Dakota and was there for twelve years. He came to Cooperstown, North Dakota in 1902 and was in the livery business. From there he went to Binford, North Dakota for three years and was in the machinery & hardware business. Since 1911 he has had the general store in Pekin, North Dakota, in partnership with Knap.

His wife, Hanna Marie Hansen, was born in America of Norwegian parents who have a farm ten miles from Pekin, North Dakota. They have three children: Hazel, Milton and Leonard.

Rood is the city mayor and was a candidate for sheriff in Nelson County.
