K. J. Salthammer

Kathryn, North Dakota

is a farmer. He was born in Salthammer in Vestnes, on July 14, 1857 and emigrated to America 1882 to Valley City, North Dakota and took a homestead in Oak Hill Township. He lives at this time on the homestead farm. He purchased a quarter of land and since then has gotten a nice comfortable home, which was built in 1909.

His wife, Anna Helgesen, is also from Romsdalen. Her parents came to Romsdalen from Hardanger and lived at Gaarden Sylte in Vestnes. The were married in 1885 and have six children, four sons and two daughters. The two oldest sons, Jacob and Helmer, are in Canada. Albert and Carl are on the farm. Ragna is married to Bernt Nilsen and lives on a farm four miles from Salthammer’s farm. Anna is at home and was confirmed last year.

Salthammer’s farm is a wonderful place for the Romsdoling people to come to. It has forests and hills, and you can feel closer to Romsdalen than at many other places in Sandprairie.
