Halvor Ostenson Ulsaker

Walcott, North Dakota

is "Hallingernes Grandfather". He is a farmer. He was born on December 24, 1841 in Hemsedal. He came to Fargo, North Dakota on May 17, 1880. He took papers for land in section 12, in the town of Walcott, on May 24, 1880 and has lived there since as a farmer.

He married Kari H. Slethoug from Hemsedal in 1886. She died last year. At an age of over 80 years she baked flatbread and potato bread for the many who come to visit their hospitable home, situated high and dry with five acres of woods around it, which Halvor himself planted. The farm is operated now by two of his sons, Ă˜sten and Henrik.

"Hallingernes Grandfather" is one of the founders of the Halling Regional Society, and its treasurer and Correspondence Secretary. He has worked there for over seven years and has taken part in all Halling Regional Society Meetings. He has written several newspaper articles and letters and maybe for some other Halling in the interest of Halling Regional Society. He had the Buskeruds publication in Drammen for over 30 years and here in this country he has had atricles of all types in Norwegian Newspaper and magazines and is fully interested in all Norwegian work.
